The Taj Mahal is in Agra, Delhi. The construction of this breath-taking monument began in 1631, 22 years ago! It is said that 20 000 people were sent to work here. Material was brought from all over India. It is the most famous monument in India. People from all over the world come to see it to be reminded of how beautiful India used to be before it was taken over by industrialism.
The Taj Mahal is known to be ' a symbol of eternal love.' The building was built by the 5th emperor, Shah Jahan for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
The building is situated on a white marble terrace. The whole building includes an extraordinary garden with fountains. Beside the palace there are two mosques built in the same style. Inside the main dome is the empress' tomb and placed next to it is the emperor's tomb.
